The
St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, California, originally built in
1904 and reconstructed after the 1906 earthquake, was financed by the trustees
of the estate of Charles Crocker, one of "The Big Four" railroad magnates who built part of the transcontinental railway. St Francis Hotel was a major
jazz destination during the 1920s, hosted numerous politicians and celebrities
and began an iconic part of the city.
