ARGENTINA
1970s
In March 1976 a military junta lead by Jorge Rafael
Videla took over Argentina. The junta
dissolved Congress, suspended political and trade union activity, and mounted a
concerted campaign against the opposition. During this period the military
imprisoned, tortured and executed leftists, Peronists, trade unionists and
members of other political parties.
