The Rise and Fall
of Danzig 1945
After WW1 Danzig, with its large ethnic German
population, became a quasi-independent city-state governed by the League of
Nations.
At the end of World War 2 and with the defeat of Nazi Germany, 3,155,000
German civilians had been expelled and 1,043,550 remained as Polish citizens. By 1960 virtually all Germans
had left.
