In 1982 American author Alice Walker (Color Purple), coined the term “colorism” and discussed how color is not synonymous to racism.  Skin color is only one mechanism used to assign, repress and limit individuals to a racial category.  Colorism is the dependence of social status on skin color alone. In order to understand discrimination based on colorism, differential treatment must not result from racial categorization, but from the social values associated with skin color.

After the Russo-Japanese War (1905), Japan determined not be subjugated and humiliated by European powers and proceeded to establish greater political and economic control of Asia.  During the 1920s Japan’s Imperial army and navy established military veto power over in the country’s Parliament.  In addition, a coup d'état ended with the killing of government’s leading members -- the incident strengthened military rule, chaos and instability in early 20th century Japan.

"15 minutes of fame".. American pop artist Andy Warhol was a prominent figure in the 1960s avant garde art movement originating in New York City, NY USA. Warhol founded the magazine Interview, managed the rock group The Velvet Underground; Warhol was one of the first to use Amiga computers to generate art.  His NYC studio, The Factory, was a gathering place for intellectuals, openly gay men and lesbians, drag queens, playwrights, NYC street people, Hollywood celebrities, artists, and wealthy patrons.

National Parks in the 20^th century

To early fascists World War I's changes in the nature of of war, society, the state, and technology required the creation a powerful state capable of mobilizing its citizens, with unprecedented authority, to serve on the front lines and to provide economic production. Fascists believed liberal democracy was obsolete. A totalitarian single-party state, led by a dictator and a martial government composed of the members of the governing fascist party was necessary to forge national unity and maintain a stable and orderly society.

US Federal Government Policies and Native Americans

In 1831 John Marshall, Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, declared that native indigenous American tribes were ‘domestic dependent nations’ whose ‘relation to the United States resembles that of a ward to his guardian’. 20th century US federal policy towards Native Americans has vacillated between assimilation and recognizing a need and responsibility to assist and aid native indigenous American developments.
