Earlier on Beneath the Waves we reviewed the concept of "divide and conquer" -- a method embraced by James Madison, a founding father, to protect land, manufacturing, mercantile, and moneyed intere for necessity in civilized nations.  Divide them into different classes, actuated by different sentiments and views -- provide a federal government that would protect the rights of property owners t(he rich).   This underlaying principle may not have been evident as we entered the 1960s unless you were acutely aware of the intricate and complex nuances of politics -- most us were enjoying the prosperity of the 1950s and living the promise of the American Dream.  Or so we thought.  Television and the current technology also took us  us into cynical views of the age.         Like the moment and day of the 911 bombings in NYC and DC, the horrific events on November 22, 1963 are imprinted on our minds.  More unimaginable assassinations would occur -- ML King, Rober Kennedy and many others.  But it is Kennedy's tragic death, now the subject of many conspiracy theories, that makes us wonder:  would we have deepened our nation's involvement in the Southeast Asian and overseas conflicts, is America willing to take on global policing for its own benefit beyond our zeal for democracy and freedom?
