Fascists believed liberal democracy was obsolete. A totalitarian single-party state, led by a dictator and a martial government composed of the members of the governing fascist party was necessary to forge national unity and maintain a stable and orderly society.

US Federal Government Policies and Native Americans
in the 20th century

In 1831 John Marshall, Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, declared that native indigenous American tribes were ‘domestic dependent nations’ whose ‘relation to the United States resembles that of a ward to his guardian’. 20th century US federal policy towards Native Americans has vacillated between assimilation and recognizing a need and responsibility to assist and aid native indigenous American developments.
